The New York State Council of Professional Geologists (NYSCPG) was pleased to have hosted the Second annual Geology Days conference from November 13-15, 2023 in Saratoga, New York. Approximately 300 people attended the event. It was nice to see many returning faces, and many new ones, join us for our largest event so far.
The event was established to allow professional geologists, engineers, and sponsors to interact and network, while providing continuing education credit to New York State Design Professionals. If attendees participated in all of the sessions, including the Key note presentation by Joe A. Ricker, P.E. of WSP, they earned 14.5 professional development hours (PDH). The NYSCPG also offered two field trips led by Dr. Ed Landing of the NYS Museum to Starks Knob and Lester Park, as well as the NYS Museum. New York State has required professional geologists to have received PDH credits upon renewals stating January 1, 2023. More information about the about of credits you will need for your next renewal period can be found at our website https://www.nyscpg.com/ Continuing-Education. After January 1, 2025, you will need 36 hours of PDHs per three-year renewal period including 1 PDH of ethics training. Future Geology Days conferences will strive to provide at least one ethics course to satisfy the requirement.
NYSCPG is already planning the third annual event! We are looking at a couple of other venues due to projected attendance for next year. Look for an announcement in the coming weeks for the date and venue.
